Coopershill Irish Pub | Peterborough NH

Today I visited Coopershill Irish Pub in Peterborough, NH. We travel back and forth from Keene pretty often these days, so passing through Peterborough is right on the route. Located right smack in the cute little downtown is this beautiful Irish pub. Today it’s coated in icicles and snowbanks, but from the snow-covered furniture on the sidewalk I can see that in the spring there will be a gorgeous little outdoor seating area. This place would be so lovely filled with planter boxes, and awning, and bistro lights.

The Irish Nachos

I knew I wanted to try their Irish Nachos since I can never resist a signature nachos dish. They offer a choice of fries (chips) or chips (crisps). These nachos are loaded with cheese sauce, red onions, bacon bits, scallions, truffle oil, Celtic sea salt, and a huge dollop of sour cream. When they arrived at my table, the first thing that hit me was the aroma of the truffle oil.

The nachos are loaded. And in the best way, too, with a heavy scoop of cheese sauce, which is my favorite part of any nachos. I loved the cheese, the bacon, and the sour cream the most.

I wish I’d ordered them with crisps instead. In fact, that’s what I meant to order, but because I saw a picture of them (the little round potato circles), I thought those were fries so I ordered the fries. I wanted the little round fried potato discs that I thought were fries, and not “kettle chips” as described on the menu. I should have just asked. It was all very confusing.

But never fear! Next time I go to Coopershill in the summer and sit out on the beautiful sidewalk I will order the Irish Nachos with Crisps and all will be well at that point.

Even though I ordered french fries but actually didn’t really want french fries, I have to say that it’s all just good because who doesn’t love potatoes in all ways? I feel like this is a place that does potatoes very well no matter what the form. Colcannon? Yes.

Bangers & Mash Entree

For my entree (as if I hadn’t just eaten the weight of a leprechaun in loaded fries), I got the Bangers & Mash, which I loved. Two hefty sausages were placed on a wide bed of colcannon (creamy mashed potatoes with scallions and cabbage) and then completely covered in a thick Guiness onion gravy. It was rich, creamy, hearty, and completely filling on that 10 degree day.

My espresso martini that went with it was lovely. It was small but reasonably priced and it hit the spot.

My husband had one of the burgers and fries which were good but not worthy of a photo. I do hope sometime this summer on one of our trips to/from Keene that we’ll be able to stop in and eat on the sidewalk and order the Irish Nachos with crisps and have as equally lovely a visit.
