On this beautiful Labor Day weekend, my son and I headed out to Strafford NH to try The Jefferson, a new brunch restaurant recently opened inside the historic Independence Inn. Luckily you don’t have to be a guest at the inn to enjoy the restaurant, so we were happy to pop in and try out their lovely menu and hospitality.

Located in the heart of beautiful Bow Lake Village, the Independence Inn is a lovely old white 2-story farmhouse with green shutters. You walk through the back door which takes you through a leafy garden in the backyard. There are also some tables where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful mornings.

You can simply order at the beautiful counter and find a table. They will bring your food out to you, or you can get it to go!

The coffee bar is self-serve and thoughtfully stocked with a variety of dairy, spiced vanilla syrup, and sugars. There is free cucumber water available as well.

The Pulled Pork Benedict is one of their signature dishes, and it is one hearty breakfast! The pulled pork is braised for 14 hours, and piled high onto their cracked pepper biscuits, topped with poached eggs and spiced hollandaise sauce. Priced at just $15, this is an incredible value and a breakfast that will stay with you all day!

My teen son ordered a huge breakfast, the Breakfast Plate, and added another 2 additional eggs for a total of 4. He loved every bit of it, including the fluffy brioche toast with mixed berry jam.

The presentation of the dishes is so nice, plated on beautiful vintage china. The whole dining room is very homey, with pretty touches like stained glass and a really interesting mural of an old New Hampshire village on the wall behind the coffee station. I would be interested to know if it is Bow Lake Village, or Northwood?

The Jefferson is open Thursday-Sunday from 6:00am until 1:30pm. They are closed Mon-Wed.
