Lone Wolf Cheese Shop by O’Dwyer’s Dairy | Harrisville NH

I have now seen the cutest little cheese shop in New Hampshire. Just off of Rt 101 in Harrisville NH, in a lovely rural setting, you will find the Lone Wolf Cheese Shop at a private residence of O’Dwyer’s Dairy.

Follow the signs toward cheese! Cheesemaker Susan has just one Jersey cow, Greta, and she makes all of her wheels of raw milk cheese by hand. Sadly, I didn’t see Greta when I visited today but it was raining and she was probably snug in her barn.

The little cheese shack is barely big enough to fit one person inside. You will find a refrigerator with a few cheese selections inside. Today’s offerings were Lancashire Cheddar, Horseradish Irish pub cheese, and mountain man which I think is a chile infused cheddar. The cheese blocks are vacuum sealed with some snazzy breathable plastic which is very good for cheese.

Inside, you may pay with cash or check. I didn’t see any signs for Venmo or cash apps, but I may have missed it.

I’ve never met Cheesemaker Sue, but her personality is all over everything at this cheese shop! Her website says she is an artist, and I can absolutely tell that she is from her wonderful homemade signage, and the beautiful property that her home is on. Her life is her art!

Once I got home, I was able to sample the Lancashire Cheddar that I bought.

Very nice semi-firm texture, can’t tell how long it was aged for but it’s definitely aged a bit. A bit of a crumbly texture, and it has flavors of grass, and a good bit of tanginess from the raw milk. It definitely tastes like the terroir of New Hampshire! What a fabulous local find. It literally doesn’t get any more local than this!!

I heard that I'm going to get to make some charcuterie boards and platters this coming week. Exciting! I was hired as a cheesemonger although my role has devolved into just being a cashier, so I don't get to do it much. It will be really nice to do some of the work I applied to do!
Our wonderful staff make food, we shoot food, sell food..... all day, every day. I definitely have the easy part in all of this.
