This week I had the pleasure of joining the good folks at Ensō Japanese Steak House on their opening day on June 17th! This brand new Japanese restaurant is the only sushi and hibachi place in Meredith, so it will be well received. Ensō is brought to you by the same family that owns Vida at the Lake in Meredith, and Vida Mexican Restaurant in Laconia.
Their location is absolutely beautiful, on the corner of Pleasant Street and Rt 25, overlooking the lake. They took over the spot formerly called Lakeside Deli, and they’ve transformed the interior. Imagine sitting here with a sushi roll and enjoying that Winnepesaukee view!

Food & Beverage at Ensō Japanese Steak House
I have to say that I was very excited for this shoot because it’s the first time I’ve photographed Japanese cuisine! I find it incredibly stylish and photogenic, so it’s very fun for me. It’s also another restaurant in the Lakes Region that I have worked with, so that was another big step.
Thankfully they have really nice natural light in the front of the restaurant for food photos.
I hope that what you notice in these photos is a sense of tranquility. I was aiming for a Japanese concept of calm and orderliness even though that is not what was going on at all. As you can guess, the hours and minutes before opening a restaurant can be pretty hectic. There were people flying all around, all kinds of stuff was piled on the countertops, and the bartender was literally unpacking bottles of spirits shortly before doors opened.
Normally I prefer a time of day when the restaurant is closed, so that it’s quiet and I have space to set up my shots and shoot in a nice settled environment. If the photos look peaceful and like everything was set up, then I have done my job.
