B. Matthew’s Eatery | Savannah GA Restaurant

During my visit to Savannah, GA, I wanted to make sure I had some good biscuits and gravy. B. Matthew’s Eatery did not disappoint. Located on Bay St just a short walk from my hotel (the Hyatt Regency), I arrived with my 8am OpenTable reservation right when they opened.

Another couple and I were the only ones in the restaurant at that time, so it was nice to have the place almost to myself. They sat me at a little 2-person table that gave me a nice view of the bar and dining area. I really enjoyed the way the restaurant is decorated and the way it highlights the historic nature of the building. This interior has been in its current state since its most recent remodel in 2012.

First, coffee! They brought out a big mug right away and I liked the branding on the cup.

I ordered the Biscuits & Gravy ($9.00) and I was so excited about it. The sausage country gravy was absolutely delicious and had a great thickness and consistency. The only thing less exciting about it was that it wasn’t exactly hot. More like lukewarm. But I’m not assertive enough to complain so I just ate it like it was…… and still enjoyed it.

I’d had some biscuits and gravy from my hotel restaurant the morning before and they were not nearly as good as these.

I wish I’d been seated at a table closer to a window to get some pretty natural light for the photos, but I made do with what I had to work with. Artificial interior lights often cast a weird color on the plates but let’s be honest. Biscuits and gravy is absolutely delicious but not the prettiest dish ever to photograph.

I also added 2 poached eggs for $2.50 additional and it was the perfect complement. What a breakfast!

I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast at B. Matthew’s Eatery and I was very interested in returning for dinner one night during my short stay but unfortunately I ran out of time and space due to my lunchtime food tours with Savannah Taste Experience. Next time I’m in Savannah, I’ll be back!

Eating and Exploring in New England & Beyond

One thing you’ll always see on the table at a NC barbecue spot is a bottle of @texaspetesauces. If you don’t know, this is not a product from Texas but a North Carolina product. My whole life, I have never really seen anybody put anything on their bbq other than Texas Pete.

Fun fact about me: in the 4th grade in Kernersville NC we had a guy from the Texas Pete family come to speak to my 4th grade class. This would have been 1987 or 88. Must have been great marketing, because I never forgot it.

Lexington Barbecue is not even on IG as far as I can find but they are world famous and I’m glad I got to stop by last week. Shown here: Chopped bbq plate with red slaw, fries, and hushpuppies. #ncbbq #lexingtonbbq #texaspete #bbq #barbecue
