As a wedding photographer who specializes in food photography, there is one place where both loves intersect, and that is of course the wedding cake. I always love the times on a wedding day when I have a small window of opportunity to photograph the cake, desserts, appetizers, and dinner buffet. I like to say that if food is an important part of a couple’s celebration, then I am a foodie’s dream wedding photographer.
In the fall of 2018 I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mary of Lotus Floral Designs on a styled shoot that she designed and organized. In addition to the wildly creative designs for the flowers, models, clothing and makeup, I got to work alongside one of New Hamsphire’s best and most sought after cake designers, Jamie of Autumn Nomad from Jackson, NH. Ironically in photographing over 120 weddings in the New Hampshire area, I have not yet had a wedding with a cake from them, so I was very excited in this case!
The theme of the shoot was a Southwest and Boho wedding taking place in a New Hampshire apple orchard. Mary’s creativity and genius really brought the whole look together. Jamie from Autumn Nomad supplied a large tiered wedding cake decorated like woven textiles in royal icing hand piped in a Navajo-inspired design, along with a couple of smaller cakes that we styled among airplants, cacti, and a huge King Protea.
