Aeromexico Premier Class JFK-MEX 787-9 Dreamliner

It had been a long time, far too long, since I did one of my international solo trips! So in March 2023 I decided not to go to Europe again. I was inspired by Somebody Feed Phil, which I had been watching a lot of, because he always says, “If you love a food, you go to the source.” He was of course talking about the origination of a cuisine. If you love pasta, go to Italy. In my case, if you love tacos, go to Mexico City!

There is just absolutely no substitution for great, authentic Mexican food in New Hampshire, so the only thing that was going to satisfy me was to go to Mexico City and eat tacos for a week straight. And that’s exactly what I did. And not just tacos: there were so many amazing things that I ate. To me, they literally have the best food in the world there.

To get there, I booked BOS-JFK-MEX round trip. I booked this through the Chase travel portal, which in hindsight was a mistake but it only used 76,000 points and I got Premier (business) class both ways so it was all fine until I missed my last connection on the way home. And then everything fell apart and could not be easily fixed due to the Chase portal booking, but for this blog post I will just talk about my flight from JFK-MEX.

Aeromexico Clase Premier passengers get access to the Delta Sky Club prior to the flight. That is where I passed the time during my connection from BOS. It was a nice lounge and had a variety of food and drink options. It was a little early in the morning, but I still managed to find a mimosa.

I had a nice flight down to Mexico City on the 787-9 Dreamliner on a beautiful day in March 2023. The business cabin was pretty large, and I even had Nate Berkus sitting right behind me, and his family was just across the aisle from him. The flight took just about five hours if I remember correctly.

There wasn’t a pre-flight drink, just a water and pack of peanuts. I know if there had been a pre-flight drink offered, I would have gotten one. Here is the view of the New York skyline as we took off from JFK.

Meal Service

The meal service was very straightforward. I don’t remember seeing a menu (I usually take a picture of it if there is one), but I chose the ravioli pasta for the entree. I thought it was interesting that there wasn’t Mexican cuisine offered. It was mostly Italian, if anything.

All of the food came out at once. There was a salad, bread, grapes, and some cheeses with fig jam.

I actually liked the ravioli.

There was a nice sunset as dinner was served. There was not much of a drink service, really. I know they came around with wine once, but I don’t remember if there was a second time. As soon as the dinner was served they all pretty much disappeared. Very different from other airlines!

Later I chose cheesecake for dessert. It was just served plain like this, no sauce or anything. I think there was ice cream offered as well.

Overall it was fine, and even wonderful compared to economy! But compared to some other business class flights I’ve had it didn’t rank too highly. Still, we arrived safely and on time so that was all that mattered.
