We had an absolutely amazing 17th anniversary dinner at Buckley’s Great Steaks in Merrimack, NH. This is a wonderful restaurant known for special occasions like anniversaries and birthdays, and in fact I photographed a small wedding there just last week. My husband and I have been there just one time before, in 2015 during a New Hampshire Restaurant Week event. It was as fantastic then as it was last night. I highly recommend it!
Appetizers
First, I started with one of their seasonal fall cocktails, the Orange Cranberry Margarita. I really enjoyed it. We also could not resist an appetizer since we rarely get to go out, especially in Covid times. I went with my all time favorite, the wedge salad! I have been writing about my love of wedges for many years now, and this was one of the best ones I’ve had. I don’t know what it is about the simple wedge salad, but I absolutely love them.

Dave also ordered an appetizer which was one of the specials of the day: Tempura fried rock shrimp with a sriracha aioli and served with a apple/jicama slaw. All of those flavors were so beautiful together, the creaminess and heat of the aioli and the sweet crunchiness of the slaw, all paired with such a light batter on the shrimp. Wow!
Entrees
For my entrée I went with the Tavern Meatloaf, although I did make a few substitutions. I don’t like mushrooms or green beans, so I changed the sauce to the red wine demi-glace and the vegetable to asparagus with hollandaise. I also subbed the regular mashed potatoes for the bacon-gorgonzola smashed potatoes on the side dish menu. It came out perfect for me.
Dave ordered Buckley’s Great Burger for his dinner, but I didn’t get a photo of it. We were soooo stuffed that we could not even begin to look at the dessert menu. Thank you, Buckley’s, for such a wonderful and memorable meal for our anniversary!
